Morning Polls: Ohio is as close as ever

  • Ohio too close to call
Even though most of SUSA's daily polls show excellent numbers for Democrats -- for example Clinton's lead two days ago in Kentucky -- Ohio remains as it was in 2004: too close to call in SUSA's latest poll:
  • The only match-up that Hillary Clinton does not lead is against John McCain, against whom she is tied 46-46 (McCain ran also best yesterday in Kansas, as well as in the FOX News national poll -- is there a story developing about McCain's superior electability here?)
  • Against Rudy Giuliani, Clinton leads 47%-45%.
  • She has big leads against all other Republicans: 49%-43% against Fred Thompson; 50-41 against Romney; 53-37 against Huckabee; and 52-35 against Ron Paul.
In last week's Quinnipiac poll, Clinton demolished all Republicans -- winning by 6 against Rudy and by double-digits against all others. While her leads in SUSA are within the margin of error, it is still important to notice that the Democrats keep coming in on top, and that the GOPers are consistently behind, within or out of the margin of error.

  • Obama leads national match-ups
Rasmussen released its national match-ups between Obama and Giuliani/Thompson today, and Obama continues to lead the Republicans. Against Giuliani, Obama leads 46% to 41%. Against Thompson, its 47-41.

In another very interesting finding by Rasmussen, 81% of Democratic voters think Clinton is electable in the general election. Far more than the 65% who say the same about Obama and 60% about Edwards. This is reflected among all voters, of which 59% say Hillary is, 53% Obama and 39% Edwards. The electability argument Obama and Edwards regularly voice does not seem to be taking hold at all among primary voters or the general electorate.

1 Comments:

  • The question is: will Republicans in Iowa suddenly change their minds and make a "John Kerry" decision in choosing to go with who they perceive to be the more electable candidate? How soon will Republicans realize that their chances for winning the Presidency next year are kind of slim and that they need to pick a candidate - John McCain, ahem - who can beat the Democrats, not an obvious loser like Giuliani or Thompson?
